2geziemt, verdiente Menschen zu ehren und die jüngeren zu der gleichen Gesinnung zu veranlassen, damit ein Wettstreit
3sei unter den jeweiligen Epheben um Disziplin und um Gehorsam gegenüber den vom Volk für ihre gute Ordnung eingesetzten (Lehrern); – Damit auch
4Rat und Volk öffentlich verdiente Menschen ehren, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen der Rat: dass die
5erlosten Vorsitzenden für die kommende Volksversammlung hierüber verhandeln lassen und die Beschlussvorlage
6des Rates in die Volksversammlung einbringen, wonach der Rat es für gut befindet, dass man belobige die Epheben unter dem Archon Eupolemos
7und sie bekränze mit goldenem Kranz wegen ihrer Frömmigkeit gegenüber den Göttern und
8ihrer Disziplin, die sie stets das ganze Jahr über gezeigt haben, und ihres Ehrgeizes für den Rat und das
9Volk, und verkündige diesen Kranz an den Dionysien in der Stadt bei den Tragödien-Uraufführungen und an den
10Eleusinien und Panathenäen und Ptolemäen bei den Sportwettkämpfen; dass für die Anfertigung der Kränze und
11die Verkündigungen Sorge tragen die Generäle und der Schatzmeister der Militärkasse; dass ihnen auch
12sein sollen Ehrensitze bei allen Spielen, die die Stadt veranstaltet; dass der jeweils gewählte Bausachverständige
13ihnen den Platz dafür zuteile; dass man ihnen auch gewähre die Weihung von zwei Bildtafeln, wo sie es beschließen;
14– Da auch ihr Kosmete dargelegt hat, wie sie in Gehorsam zu ihm viel Nützliches bewirkt haben
15für das Volk zu seiner Sicherheit und seinen Schutz, und er Rat und Volk bittet, ihnen einen Preis für ihre
16Mühen zu gewähren, um ihn zu weihen: dass man ihnen, wie der Kosmete bittet, der Würdigung halber gebe, was dem Volk (als Preis) geeignet scheint,
17und dessen Weihung im Lykeion zu gestatten als ein Denkmal ihrer Mühe und ihrer Disziplin, und daraufzuschreiben
18ihre Namen mit Patronym und die Namen der Demen und des Kosmeten und der Lehrer; dass man belobige auch
19ihren Kosmeten Theoboulos S.d. Th- - - aus dem Demos - - - wegen seines Wohlwollens und seines Ehrgeizes, den er stets für
20den Rat und das Volk hegt, - - -, und bekränze gemäß dem Gesetz; dass man auch
21belobige ihre Lehrer, den Waffenausbilder Persaios S.d. Symmachos aus dem Demos Kikynna, und den Knabentrainer Hermo-
22doros S.d. Heortios aus dem Demos Acharnai, und den Speerwurflehrer Nikomachos S.d. Nikomachos aus dem Demos Aphidna, und den Katapultausbilder Pe-
23dieus S.d. Neandros aus dem Demos Kerameis, und den Bogenschießtrainer Sosos S.d. Proxenos aus dem Demos Sphettos, und einen jeden von ihnen
24bekränze mit einem Olivenkranz; dass diesen Beschluss der Sekretär, der während der Prytanie amtiert, aufzeichne auf eine steinerne Stele und
25die Namen der Epheben nach Phylen, und aufstelle auf der Agora; dass die entstandenen Kosten für die Stele und die
26Aufzeichnung der Schatzmeister der Militärkasse begleiche.

2and it is proper to honour those who are worthy and to challenge the young men to (adopt) a like-minded attitude, in order that there should be an incentive
3for those who are ephebes to always obey those appointed by the People to be in charge of their orderliness;
4and in order that the Council and the People may be seen to be honouring those who are worthy, for good fortune, the Council shall decide, that the
5presiding committee allotted for the forthcoming Assembly shall place these matters on the agenda, and submit the opinion
6of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council to praise the ephebes of the archonship of Eupolemos (185/4),
7and crown them with a gold crown for their piety towards the gods and the
8discipline, which they continually showed throughout the year, and for their love of honour towards the Council and the
9People; and announce this crown at the new tragedies of the City Dionysia, and at the
10gymnastic competitions of the Eleusinia and Panathenaia and Ptolemaia; and the generals and the treasurer of the military fund
11shall take care of the making of the crowns and their announcement; and they shall have
12the front seats at all the competitions that the city puts on; whoever is elected director of works
13shall always assign them their place; and they shall have permission to set up two paintings, wherever they please;
14and since their commander has also rendered an account of how, obeying him, they they accomplished many useful things
15for the safety and protection of the People, and since he requests of the Council and the People that they be granted a dedication
16as a reward for their endurance, they shall have it, just as their commander requests, whatever shall seem good to the People, for their honour,
17and its erection in the Lyceum shall be a monument to their love of labour and discipline; and to inscribe
18their names with their father’s names and deme and the name of their commander and trainers; and to praise also
19their commanding officer, Theoboulos son of Th[eoboulos of Eleusis?], for the good-will and love of honour, which he continually shows towards
20the Council and the People - - - and to be crowned in accordance with the law; and to praise also
21their trainers, their weapons trainer, Persaios son of Symmachos of Kikynna, and their physical trainer,
22Hermodoros son of Heortios of Acharnai, and their javelin trainer, Nikomachos son of Nikomachos of Aphidna, and their artillery officer,
23Pedieus son of Neandros of Kerameis, and their archery trainer, Sosos son of Proxenos of Sphettos; and to crown each of them
24with a foliage crown; and the prytany secretary shall inscribe this decree on a stone stele, as well as
25the names of the ephebes according to their tribes, and stand it in the Agora,
26and the treasurer of the military fund shall allocate the expenditure accrued for the stele and the [inscribing?].
